National Anthem @ Memorial Day in Washington D.C.

AC at DC

Das Memorial Day-Wochenende verbrachte Ich mit einigen Kollegen aus dem AC-Department in Washington D.C. Die Fahrt dauerte - mit Zwischenstop in Philadelphia - knapp 4 Stunden.

Washington ist eine wundervolle Stadt, an jeder Ecke gibt's was zu sehen, überall sind Monumente und historische Bauwerke. Das Nachtleben hingegen ist eher bescheiden, oder wie eine Einwohnerin meinte: "You know, Washington's kind of a sleepy town".

Wir übernachteten in einem Hotel in Springfield am Rande von Washington und fuhren jeden Tag mit der Metro in die City. Als wir die Haltestelle "Pentagon" sahen, mussten wir natürlich sofort raus um zu sehen ob dort wirklich das Pentagon steht:


Gleich nebenan ist der Nationalfriedhof Arlington ("Arlington National Cemetery"):

Direkt im Zentrum von Washington D.C. ragt das berühmte Washington Monument 170 Meter in die Höhe.


Etwa 1 Meile entfernt, in jeder Himmelsrichtung, stehen weitere berühmte Bauwerke.
Im Norden George W's Bude - The White House:


Im Osten der Sitz des amerikanischen Kongresses - The United States Capitol:


Im Süden steht das Jefferson Memorial:


Und westlich des Washington Monuments steht das Lincoln Memorial:





Heute regnet's leider in Princeton, deshalb fällt der Ausflug an die Ostküste wohl sprichwörtlich ins Wasser. Aber morgen wird's wieder sonnig und heiß!

...und wieder mal ist ein Wochenende vorbei :-/

Danke an Katherine & Tim für die super Party - auch wenns mit dem (outdoor) Grillen leider nicht geklappt hat war's ein tolles Event!
Und auch gleich ein Danke an Stefan, der mich und meine 2 Promille heil nach Hause gebracht hat ;-)

Basketball

NJ drivers license

Today I got my NJ drivers license and it looks like that:


So from now on, I don't have to carry my passport + Austrian drivers license + International drivers license when I'm on the road.

It took me just 2 hours to get it (plus 3 hours preparation time yesterday for the knowledge test - which is very easy indeed) and it only cost me 18 bucks.

I gotta go now, I had no breakfast today and I'm starving!!

May 3rd

Today is actually a sad day, as my dad died 5 years ago in an accident.
I think of him every now and then, and there are still a lot of situations which reminds me of him.
I wish I could just talk to him one last time, but I know that's not gonna happen.

I will always remember you and I hope that somehow you can see me and you are proud of me!
